A great attendance of over 750 Hotello’s paid tribute to the evolution of the Hotello. We are ready for the future!
Amsterdam, January 9th 2019 – Today the 15th edition of the HotelloTOP Year Event took place during the Horecava at RAI Amsterdam. This year’s HotelloTOP Year Event was all about the theme ‘Hotello Sapiens’. The hotello-DNA has characteristics to make deep connections, connect people, and lead and serve complex group dynamics. Our hotello species is woven into a very strong, personal network, which is suited for the future! This festive 15th edition was a tribute to the evolution of the Hotello.
Presentation duo Esther Boers (SHMS ‘02), hospitality consultant in her own business Comppassion, and Frank Lindner, Senior Editor at Food Inspiration magazine, made sure the congress ran smoothly. Two Hotello’s and one Notello shared their stories on stage: Robert Guijt (HTH ’90, DRIVE Impact of Hospitality), Margot van Brakel (HMSM ’93, EmpoweringPeople) and Hans Steenbergen (Notello, Food Inspiration). They shared their stories in the TOP Talk format; a presentation of exactly 10 minutes, which contains 20 slides of each 30 seconds.
After the TOP Talks the winner of the first edition of The NXT GM Challenge was announced. This challenge is created for students and recent graduates of the Dutch Hotel Management Schools, with the goal to win the prize and become General Manager for a year at, the four star hotel, Postillion Amersfoort Veluwemeer. This year’s winner is Justus van Dam (HTH ‘19) and he will start this great opportunity as General Manager in September 2019. After this professor Erik Scherder, known from lectures at ‘De Wereld Draait Door’, took the stage. In 2002, he was appointed as special professor and for professor Kinesiology at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Today he fascinated us with his Keynote about the science of the Hotello brain and the human touch.
Hotello of the Year Award 2019
Joost Rietveld (HMSM ‘ 05), Managing Director Too Good To Go Netherlands, was named Hotello of the Year 2019. He left the other two finalists, Desiree Dils (HMSM ‘ 02) and Kiona Malinka (BUAS ‘ 08), behind him in the final during the HotelloTOP Year Event 2019. Joost Rietveld won this the award because of his success with Too Good To Go. With his idealistic idea of a world without food waste, Joost and his team do not only have 60 partners who are committed to Too Good To Go, they are also active in all provinces of The Netherlands and have already “saved” 100.000 meals. As Country Manager in The Netherlands, Joost brings power to his team and he enables his employees to be the best version of themselves.
Earlier today, during Future Hotello, the winner of the Talent of the Year Award was announced. Awarded to a young and promising Hotello. This year’s winner is Cees van der Haagen (HTH ‘17), a passionate Master student who also has a challenging job at the head office from StayOkay. Here he did several great projects in 2018.
